The New Hampshire Red chicken is a great dual-purpose brown egg laying breed. They are known to mature faster than other brown egg layers. In fact they were used many years ago, crossed with a Delaware chicken, to produce meat chickens. The breed produced by crossing a New Hampshire and a Delaware is called an Indian River or Delaware X Hampshire. The crossing of New Hampshire and Delaware chickens has been replaces with the modern day Cornish Cross Broiler, due to rapid growth and feed efficiency.
New Hampshire Red hens will lay 200+ brown eggs per year.
